St Johns Varsity Basketball Vs Williamston Hornets at St Johns
Isaiah Cobb, senior

On 12/13 The St. Johns Redwings Hosted the Williamston Hornets for a CAACA red conference match up. In the past Williamston has been a very good basketball program but they entered the game 1-3 the same as the Redwings. Strictly off of looks Williamston towers over St Johns with all but one starter over 6 feet tall. This year being one of the bigger St johns teams had three starters over 6 feet.

To start the game Sophomore Adian Wirth won the tip but nobody touched the ball on its way out of bounds making it Williamston ball. This type of play is somewhat reminiscent of the first quarter that will ensue. St johns would win the first quarter narrowly highlighted by good all around team ball. The second quarter is when the redwings got hot and went on a run capitalized by multiple gym erupting threes by multiple redwings. By this time in the game the crowd was extremely into it seemingly helping the redwings play their best basketball I have seen them play all year. By the end of the first half the redwings accrued a double digit lead over the hornets.

Coming out of halftime it was apparent that the redwings cooled down a little. The crowd was engaged but not as much as the end of the half. After a somewhat turbulent start to the third quarter the hornets cut the redwings lead to under double digits. While Williamston was seemingly making a comeback I did not personally believe that they would pull it off. They were starting to win mainly off of redwing mistakes and missed shots. Near the end of the third the redwings revealed that they had a secret weapon off of the bench Junior Titus K. Before this game I had only see him get garbage time minutes but when checked into this game he made a instant difference hitting a couple a big threes to end the third quarter. Fortunately for the redwings this would continue into the fourth quarter. The hot hand would extend to the rest of the team with other players hitting big shots down the stretch. With no answer offensively or defensively for the redwings the hornets made the forth their worst quarter of the game. The redwings would go on the win the game convincingly to the excitement and joy of the crowd. With the win the Redwings moved to 2-3 and Williamston to 1-4. The redwings play mason the following Friday for another CAAC red battle.
