“DeWitt is very strong this season. They are very deep and have a large team. This was a difficult meet for us to match up, but our guys hung in there right up to the end. We are very proud of the effort our entire team put into this meet and think they showed a lot of heart tonight. It would have been easy for them to put in half hearted efforts but that wasn’t the case. We had a ton of personal best performances and the times and scores they turned in really showed us the determination this team has when they are challenged,” said coach Kim Brewbaker. The Wings 400 Free relay team of Marcus Jones, Shane VanAbel, Ryan Dow & Max Leasher won that event with a time of 3:48.96 and St. Johns diver Sam Hudgens also finished on top with his score of 209.60. The hometown boys turned in 24 individual personal bests and four of the relays also touched in with best times for the season. “Our guys really stepped up to the plate tonight with tremendous performances. Every one of our guys that competed tonight had at least one season best performance. That says a lot about the kind of competitors these guys are. They weren’t going let DeWitt get off easy and they gave our visitors a great battle right up to the last event,” added Brewbaker. St. Johns next competition is scheduled for Thursday Feb. 6 at Okemos. The meet will begin at 6:00 pm.
On Thursday, January 23, St. Johns Boys swimming and diving team hosted a dual meet against DeWitt High School. The Redwings lost the meet with the Panthers by a score of 112-74. The results for St. Johns were:
